Hydrogen panel: Hydrogen on your roof

Our earth is warming up and our resources are depleting. The climate is crying out for sustainable solutions. How do we ensure that the energy we consume is renewable, sustainable, clean and accessible to all? This project offers the answer. Affordable Green Hydrogen from Light and Air.

The challenge of our energy problem is not only in generating green power. 80% of energy is provided by gas, heating oil and so on. To replace these, we need a new fuel: green hydrogen orH2. Until recently, greenH2 was only generated via green electricity. Then we were talking about expensive installations, only interesting for large capacities (i.e. wind farms). KU Leuven researchers created a world first earlier this year with their breakthrough in the development of hydrogen panels. Here, water vapour in the air is converted directly into H2. With this application, you can power and heat your home. You can store it for the winter and fill up your car with it. Imagine companies using it too. Transport companies could run their entire fleet on self-generatedH2!

Performance product with strong design
The technology developed by KU Leuven is unique in the world, but is only a proof of concept. It is a homemade prototype that is unsafe in its current form and still far away from being an applicable product. This project will allow them, together with Comate and Waterstofnet, to take the technology out of the lab and transform it into a safe, high-tech, innovative and high-performing product with a strong design, ready for large-scale production. It will ensure that we can maintain our lead in the world. It will generate gigantic international interest. It is something people can see and understand. Green hydrogen is the energy carrier and fuel of the future. With this project, we are making that future a reality.
