ACIRC: Circular sound studio
A sound studio that you can completely dismantle and rebuild, with no waste material? It exists.
Modular circular sound studio
iDeal Acoustics builds its own sound studios at their workshop in Werchter. Because there are often changes at media groups, iDeal Acoustics noticed that all that soundproofing kept getting torn down and thrown away. They started thinking how this could be done differently. Modular sound boxes already existed, but they were not sufficient for loud music. So they wanted to make a circular, modular soundbox, adaptable in different shapes and sizes.
"We found a partner at Juunoo, which specialises in circular and modular office partitions," says Matthias Aerts of iDeal Acoustics in Werchter. "The system works with extendable metal studs and walls attached to them with Velcro. Sturdy enough to hang heavy equipment. With their knowledge and our knowledge of acoustics, we set up the circular studio. With wider studs so there was enough room for sound insulation, with a timber frame that slides together and a structure that you can click on and off. Everything is on a floating floor made of cork. We could also rely on the expertise of KU Leuven for the acoustic tests and to develop an affordable and high-performance acoustic door."
