Precision Therapy Logistics Gateway: transport of personalised medicines
Completely new personalised therapies in small quantities for cancer treatment and orphan diseases, for example, require a totally new logistics approach. They are not transported in mass on pallets, but in individual small packages.
These parcels have to be transported under very strict temperature conditions and often under very high time pressure (e.g. 6 hours from production to patient). Often these parcels are labelled as 'dangerous' goods, because of radioactivity, chemical formulation or storage conditions. For customs, this is completely new, with unknown entries on notes of lading that have to be cleared in the shortest possible time. Enter for a total approach, truly leading the way in the logistics world.
With the project ''Precision Therapy Logistics Gateway'', Air Cargo Belgium wants to tackle this issue with many partners in their network and develop a fully customised logistics chain that meets the high requirements of transporting these personalised therapies (ATMP or Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products). With UZ Leuven, we have a leading knowledge actor (producer/user) in this new branch of medicine in our region who is actively involved in this strategic project.
Thus, a complete new set of standards, protocols and innovative track & trace solutions will be developed to transport these products in the ideal way from producer to patient.
